Metro-Mobile Literacy Council (formerly the Metro-Mobile Reading Council)
The Metro-Mobile Literacy Council is a professional organization open to all community members who are invested in the promotion of literacy in our community. This includes teachers, parents, principals, librarians, curriculum specialists, literacy coaches, support personnel, students of education, local business leaders, and community members.
The Metro-Mobile Literacy Council received its charter from the International Literacy Association in 1959, prior to the creation of the Alabama Literacy Association in 1968, making our council the oldest literacy council in Alabama.
Mission
Our mission is to promote literacy in the Mobile area as well as at the state and international levels through appropriate projects and programs.
Goals
To promote community awareness and the need to read to and with children of all ages
Study the various factors that influence progress in reading and writing
To increase the council’s visibility and influence in the community
